In this workshop, we’re throwing two playful and functional pieces — a donut vase and a lemon juicer.
Starting with the same basic clay puck, you’ll learn how to shape, lift and sculpt the clay into two completely different forms using simple wheel-throwing techniques.
We’ll begin with the fundamentals of centering and coning, before exploring how to shape your walls and create the joins needed for each project. You’ll learn how to create the distinctive donut shape of the vase, as well as how to build the peak of the lemon juicer.
Once your pieces are thrown, we’ll look at trimming and smoothing to refine the forms and get them ready for their final finish.
These are fun projects that allow you to practise your wheel skills without taking things too seriously. Follow along at your own pace and enjoy experimenting with the shapes.
This workshop is perfect for confident beginners or anyone currently working through our Four Week Wheel Course who wants to practise their throwing skills while creating something a little different.
